The third GRI Airport Sector Supplement Meeting is jointly hosted by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) was incorporated as a public limited company in November 1999 and was thereafter listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, becoming the first airport operating company to be listed in Asia and the sixth in the world.

MAHB’s core activities include the management, operation and maintenance as well as development of airports, with primary importance being placed on the operational efficiency, safety and security of passengers, cargo and aircraft operations. Besides its core business activities, MAHB has in its corporate structure, several subsidiary companies offering a range of aviation and non-aviation related products and services.

Currently, MAHB operators and manages Malaysia’s 39 airports which comprise international, domestic and Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) ports. MAHB also provides airport management services for Astana International Airport in Kazakhstan, Delhi International Airport and Hyderabad International Airport in India and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Turkey.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one of Asia’s major aviation hubs and is a destination in itself. It is located at the top of the southern corridor of Peninsular Malaysia, bordering the states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. It is situated in the Sepang district, approximately 50 km from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur.

KLIA’s Main Terminal Building area was designed using the concept of ‘Airport in the forest, forest in the airport’, in which it is surrounded by green space. This was done with the co-operation of the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia. An entire section of rain forest was transplanted from the jungle and placed in the Satellite Building.

Since its inauguration in year 1998, KLIA has won numerous awards from international organisations such as Skytrax and International Air Transport Association. With its continuous effort to provide excellent services to passengers, the airport has emerged as one of the top five airports in the world.

KLIA’s commitment to promote environment responsibility for all local and foreign travellers was recognised by Green Globe, making it the first and only airport in the world to receive Green Globe certificate in year 2004 and onwards. To further reinforce KLIA’s commitment to environmental preservation, Project Green Planet was launched in conjunction with World Earth Day 2007 with aims for continuous improvement in the green direction.

KLIA was thrice voted as the World’s Best Airport (15-25 million passengers per annum) in the 2005 AETRA awards, 2006 ACI-ASQ awards and 2007 ACI-ASQ awards.
