Location, location, location!

Selamat pagi, everyone!

I know that everyone is all excited about KL already and are making plans on flights and where to stay. So today, I’m going to share some info about how to get from the airport to the city center [thanks for the query, May] :)

There are three airports that you may possibly fly to to get to KL. Most of you will be arriving via KL International Airport (KLIA). Here’s how to get to the city center from KLIA:

  • Beat the jam, take the ERL Train! :) It will take you 28 minutes to get to the KL Sentral station. From KL Sentral, you can catch a taxi to your hotel, or take a connecting LRT train to the different parts of the city.
  • If you are taking a taxi from KL Sentral, make sure you get a coupon for it!
  • Take a taxi all the way into town. Airport taxis run on NGV gas engines and is one of the ways we try to reduce carbon emissions on airport journeys :)

Alternatively, you may be doing the whole yuppie thing and arrive in KL via the KLIA-LCCT. From here to KL city:

  • There are three kinds of buses you can take from the LCCT. 1st, the bus that goes to KLIA [then you can do the whole KLIA thing]. 2nd, the bus that goes to KL Sentral [then you can do the KL Sentral thing]. 3rd, the bus that goes everywhere else [hello, holidays!]. My suggestion is to bus right to KL Sentral. Its the quicker and cheaper option.
  • Some airlines that fly to LCCT may arrive at weird hours. If this happens to you, Tune-Hotel is within the vicinity and is a clean way to out-weird the hours till time returns to normal.

And then there is the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, fondly known as Subang Airport. If you somehow find yourself coming to KL via Subang Airport, you’re going to take a taxi all the way to your hotel. If for some reason you’re arriving here via a night flight, give me a call. You can bunk in with me for the night and I’ll see you to your hotel in the morning :)

At any point that traveling from the airport to the city freaks you out, please give me or Ms. Zanita a call and we’ll do the whole superhero thing.

Lastly, a word about booking accommodation in the city center – Please consider walking distance from the KL Convention Center. The weather in November may be particularly humid for a lot of Westerners and walking a kilometer in Europe may to be the same as walking a kilometer in Kuala Lumpur. Having said that, I certainly invite you to explore the zillion of hotel options around the city, but recommend those on the meeting details page.
